Seiko SPB187J1 Prospex
Seiko Prospex 1968 Re-Creation Automatic Blue Dial
This timepiece is one of a collection of new interpretations of Seiko’s diving heritage for 2020. This specific watch is inspired by the Seiko 1968 Diver’s 300m watch – which was the highest of world standards hi beat calibre and was used for the first climb from Japan to Mount Everest. The 2020 version has been modernised from the original version with a smaller case size – from 44mm to 42mm, high visibility dial layout and increased power reserve to 70 hours with calibre 6R35. Seiko Prospex watches are designed for sports lovers and adventure seekers in the water, in the sky or on land. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards.
The Seiko SPB187J1 is part of the Seiko Prospex line, a unique collection of sports watches reflecting the brand’s many years of expertise. The Seiko SPB187J1 has a sturdy stainless steel case with a super-hard coating and a handsome unidirectional bezel. With a thickness of 13mm, this watch can go into the medium-sized category. The curved lugs bring a touch of panache to what is otherwise a tough-looking case.
The screw-down crown at three o’clock is oversized and adds to the sporty image of this watch. The dial is protected by curved sapphire crystal, which also boosts the solidity of the Seiko SPB187J1.
With a sapphire blue dial, the Seiko SPB187J1 definitely has an athletic feel to it. This is heightened by the presence of oversized, luminescent indices, which are coated with Lumibrite along with the flamboyant indexes. The date window at three o’clock brings some added depth to the dial of the Seiko SPB187J1. There is also an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface to ensure that the Seiko SPB187J1 is legible in any circumstances.
The stainless steel bracelet of the Seiko SPB187J1 lends the watch a sporty yet luxurious image. The bracelet uses a classic three-fold clasp with a secure lock and a push button release with an extender. As a result, the Seiko SPB187J1 sits safe, secure and comfortable on the wrist.
Using a self-winding automatic 6R35 caliber, the Seiko SPB187J1 benefits from over a century of Japanese watchmaking expertise. The watch is water-resistant to 200 meters and has a seventy-hour power reserve, adding to its sporting credentials.
With 24 jewels, a date display and a stop seconds hand function, the Seiko SPB187J1 is a highly functional watch that’s also exceptionally elegant.
